Situation
We were contacted by the Middle Office Manager of a London Based Fund Manager who was frustrated with spending a disproportionate amount of time collating the necessary information from various computer systems in order to calculate Risk-adjusted performance measures*.
The collating process would involve screen scraping from many different systems and then entering the values for calculation into Excel. Any lapses of information would be manually entered on a best endeavour basis.
Even more frustratingly only the Middle Office Manager was able to work and maintain the increasingly complex spreadsheet leaving the fund exposed should anything happen to him or if he suddenly had to take a leave of absence.
Solution
We explained to him how he could use ImpactEdge to collate the necessary information from the disparate systems as, combined with the powerful Data Aggregation Engine in ImpactEdge he would be able to reliably reproduce the process time and time again with minimal effort.
By using the integrated formula environment and integrated presentation functionality the Middle Office Manager was able to report tabular and graphical information with ease. It truly was an example of setup once and use many times with easy scope for enhancements.
Now the whole process takes just minutes and is no longer fully dependant on the Middle Office Manager being present.
(Risk-adjusted performance measures are intended to improve upon the metrics used to make capital planning, risk management and corporate strategy decisions by explicitly reflecting the risks inherent in different businesses.)
